Rotation Measure Evolution of the Repeating Fast Radio Burst Source FRB 121102

چکیده

The repeating fast radio burst source FRB 121102 has been shown to have an exceptionally high and variable Faraday rotation measure (RM), which must be imparted within its host galaxy likely by or local environment. In the redshifted ($z=0.193$) reference frame, RM decreased from $1.46\times10^5$~rad~m$^{-2}$ $1.33\times10^5$~rad~m$^{-2}$ between January August 2017, showing day-timescale variations of $\sim200$~rad~m$^{-2}$. Here we present sixteen RMs detections with Arecibo 305-m telescope, Effelsberg 100-m, Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array, providing a record 121102's over 2.5-year timespan. Our observations show decreasing trend in RM, although is not linear, dropping average 15\% year$^{-1}$ $\sim9.7\times10^4$~rad~m$^{-2}$ at most recent epoch 2019. Erratic, short-term $\sim10^3$~rad~m$^{-2}$ week$^{-1}$ were also observed MJDs 58215--58247. A decades-old neutron star embedded still-compact supernova remnant near massive black hole accretion torus proposed explain RMs. We compare theoretical models describing evolution for FRBs originating remnant. age unknown, find that agree ages $\sim6-17$~years time first available measurements 2017. draw comparisons Galactic center magnetar, PSR J1745--2900.

The Repeating Fast Radio Burst FRB 121102 as Seen on Milliarcsecond Angular Scales

The millisecond-duration radio flashes known as fast radio bursts (FRBs) represent an enigmatic astrophysical phenomenon. Recently, the sub-arcsecond localization (∼100 mas precision) of FRB121102 using the Very Large Array has led to its unambiguous association with persistent radio and optical counterparts, and to the identification of its host galaxy. However, an even more precise localizat...

Fast outflows in compact radio sources: evidence for AGN-induced feedback in the early stages of radio source evolution

We present intermediate-resolution, wide-wavelength coverage spectra for a complete sample of 14 compact radio sources taken with the aim of investigating the impact of the nuclear activity on the circumnuclear interstellar medium (ISM) in the early stages of radio source evolution. We observe spatially extended line emission (up to ∼20 kpc) in the majority of sources which is consistent with a...

On the cosmological evolution of the FRII radio source population

We present an analytical model for the cosmological evolution of the FRII source population. Based on an earlier model for the intrinsic radio luminosity linear size evolution of these objects, we construct theoretical source samples. The source distributions in the radio power linear size plane of these samples are then compared with that of an observed flux-limited sample. We find that the so...

Extragalactic radio source evolution under the dual - population unification scheme

We show that a dual-population unification scheme provides a successful paradigm with which to describe the evolution and beaming of all bright extragalactic radio sources. The paradigm consists of two intrinsic radio-source populations, based on the two distinct radio-galaxy morphologies of Fanaroff-Riley classes I and II. These represent the 'unbeamed' or 'side-on' parent populations of steep...
